Trauma is at the core of ALL our issues.
That’s because trauma is rooted in our reactions to what happens in life. But it’s subjective – what’s traumatizing to one might not be for another.
Dr. Robert Scaer (yes, it’s pronounced “scare.” I couldn’t make that up. What a name for a trauma specialist!!) explained why.
He notes that trauma is a combination of a threat to the system (your body or mind) and a relative perception of helplessness.
So, when you’re confronted with something threatening and you’re unable to deal with it, that’s when trauma happens.
“Big T” versus “little t” trauma…
“Big T” traumas are those “big events” people think of as causing trauma: physical abuse or neglect, sexual abuse, natural disasters, or witnessing a violent crime.
We now understand those aren’t the only kinds of traumas. “Little t” traumas may have the same impact as “Big T” traumas because they can similarly trigger your mind and emotions.
Ongoing emotional abuse, bullying, feeling trapped in a situation, or chronic stress can be traumatizing and require the same level of intervention.
Talk therapy isn’t enough.
Trauma affects you on multiple levels, so talk therapy alone isn’t enough to heal. It can help you process the cognitive and emotional aspects of the trauma, but it doesn’t go deep enough.
The healing arts encompass many practices and techniques to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. These arts often involve “alternative or complementary” approaches to traditional medicine rooted in practices that go back thousands and thousands of years.
After starting my practice, I saw that my clients needed more than a listening ear and intelligent responses. Some also needed to understand energy anatomy, shadow work, generational healing, and esoteric wisdom. I needed those things, too.
Over the last decade, I have devoted myself as much to healing arts training as traditional clinical practice. I’m well-versed in conventional and clinical psychotherapy, but I also practice as a Reiki Master/Teacher, Vibrational Sound Healer, and a student of Quantum Healing Hypnosis.
I have also been specially trained in Meditation, Integrative Medicine, Drum Circle Leadership, Aromatherapy, Intuitive Development, Akashic Records, Mindfulness, Hypnotherapy, Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi, and Qigong.
Developing resilience and post-traumatic STRENGTH…
We’ll do this by interrupting old patterns and dropping the psychic weight they’ve caused us.
Drawing on techniques rooted in creative expression, we can search for a more cathartic outlet for your emotions and tap into your inner strengths to build resilience.
Talk therapy provides a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insight into your experiences, and develop coping strategies.
Combining talk therapy with the healing arts can create a comprehensive and personalized approach to trauma healing.
The paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect.
– Peter A. Levine
